A Poem

Mourning Dove

As I look out upon the white, snow-covered ground,
I hear a soft cooing sound,
Of a Mourning Dove
Who spreads his large wings and flies above.

Cinnamon is our brown bunny with a very sweet personality. She currently lives in a two-story hutch with a pen attached so that she can run around in the grass. Katie, our Corgi mix, has taken no notice of her since Cinnamon moved into the 'condo' as we like to call it. Cinnamon used to be afraid of the chickens, but now she is protected--probably--against any harm.

October 5 2011

Hi readers! On this week, we have a new activety. You can write a story for other readers of my blog to enjoy. These are the rules of the story-making:

you're story can only be two or three pages long
You can have up to five characters
the location has to be in a made-up town of you're own, our a real place somewhere in the Western Hemisphere
You have to have some children in it
you can have the setting either on a sunny day in summer, or a rainy cold day in winter

I will choose the story i like most, and post it on my blog. Good luck!

The Story

From one of my readers: Megan.

Continued from last post.
---------------------------------------

Tom: "Great! Let's get going"!!!

Uncle Jermy: "Ok, here's the story. Let me start at the beginning. I used to work in a palace when I was a young man. I cleaned glass floors and washed the golden railings, and I took care of things. I worked hard. Everyone in the palace respected me for that. I wasn't a fancy person, but they trusted me. Then one day the old King called me to him and told me that he was soon to die. He told me he wanted me to take charge of a special box, hide it and keep it safe. It was a dark brown box with brass straps, and it smelled a bit moldy. It also seemed to be covered with dirt! Anyway, he put the box in my arms and told me not to open it until he died. He said the instructions for what to do were inside. Well, I know I was a trusted person there, but I couldn't help sneaking a peak. I looked inside one night when I was all alone and I was so surprised to see seven jewels! One for each color of the rainbow. I put the lid back on quickly and I hid the box in a special spot in the garden. I planted a tree on top so I'd know where it was. Well finally, after a few years, the king did die, and I went to look for the box I'd hidden."

Jane: "Was it there under the tree?" Her eyes were wide.

Uncle Jermy: "Well, I dug and dug. It took me a few nights. I finally found it, and the box was dirtier than ever. I pulled off the top and inside you'll never guess what I found."

Tom: "Jewels?!"

Uncle Jermy: "Nope."

Jane: "They were gone?"

Uncle Jermy: "Yep. Completely gone. The box was empty except for this note!" He pulled out an old rumpled up piece of paper from his back pocket. Jane and Tom leaned over to look. The writing was so tiny, it was hard to see. This is what it said:

To the finder of this chest. I have taken the jewels which the king left for his seven daughters. The daughters will never know they were missing because he didn't tell them of his plans. The note I found in here with the rainbow jewels told me that you are the only one who knows that this was what he planned to do with the jewels. He told you to give them each a jewel. That was your job. But the king owed me a favor, so I am taking them. If you want to talk about this, come find me in Texas. I'll be at the old ranch in Middletown. - The thief.

Jane stared at the note. Then she realized she and Tom and Uncle Jermy were standing, right now, in Middleton!

Jane: "So now we're here," she said. "What do you think we should do?"

Uncle Jermy: "You two are very small. I need help spying on the Thief. I want to find out what kind of a guy he is. Are you willing?"

You can write your mystery and post it too.
